It's hard to believe that it's already been one year since I assumed the Chair position. I've learned a lot about how the Town works from the inside, but there's always more to learn!
I was fortunate to meet and talk with many of you in November. One message came through: faster, less expensive and reliable internet service for our residents is important or even critical! I'm beginning our project by collecting detailed information about current services, costs, and how well it works for you. The survey is on the Town's website; please pass along word to your neighbors and friends too! Please also sign up for our email list; this will make it easier and less expensive to communicate with you about Town issues and projects. http://www.town.rutland.wi.us/
Several of you also asked about our Town Hall building. I'm planning on restarting discussions on this in 2017. We're going to explore all options to meet the Town needs now and in the future. What is not in question is that we need a better facility for storage of Town records, for our administration and for our elections. I hope that you'll join in these discussions!
Finally, the Board developed a budget and avoided any tax increase. We have a fiscally sound budget and I want to thank the town residents who participated in the process. On a cautionary note, in the future we will likely need additional revenue if we're to maintain our current level of services and road maintenance. I hope you will be a part of that process to help us review and determine what spending is essential to maintaining the quality services you expect.
Wishing you and yours the very best for this holiday season!
