Caucus

Rutland Caucus

January 9, 2007

 

1.        Town Chairman called the Caucus to order.  An attendance list of the 30+ town residents present is on file with the clerk.

 

2.        Beske presented an Explanation that eligible voters may nominate candidates and vote.

 

3.     Beske explained the Rules of the Caucus:

A)   elected by acclamation or ballot.

B)    chairman of caucus (elected by town) runs election.

C)    one office at a time.

 

4.        Elect caucus chairman and appoint tellers to be used if needed.  Beske opened the nominations for Caucus Chairman.  Sperle nominated Jim Lunde; 2^nd by Rich Reilly.  No other nominations were received.  Sperle moved to close the nominations for Caucus Chairman; 2^nd by Rhonda Wethal; motion carried.  Lunde took over the running of the caucus.

 

5.     Nominations:

A)   Town Chairman.

       Rich Reilly nominated Dale Beske; 2^nd by Jeanette Walker.

       Diane Podebrasky nominated Daniel Dean; 2^nd by Tami Dean. 

       No other candidates were nominated.  Sperle moved to close the nominations for Town Chairman; 2^nd by Kim  

       Sime.

   B) Town Supervisor. 

               Jeanette Walker nominated Milt Sperle; 2^nd by Jim Schaller.  Hearing no further nominations, Lunde closed

               the nominations for Town Supervisor.

        C)   Town Clerk.

               Jeanette Walker nominated Dawn George; 2^nd by Milt Sperle.  Hearing no further nominations, Lunde closed

               the nominations for Town Clerk

        D)   Town Treasurer.

               Larry Schuman nominated Jim Schaller; 2^nd by Elaine Schuman.

               Milt Sperle nominated Kim Sime; 2^nd by Rhonda Wethal.

               Hearing no further nominations, Lunde closed the nominations for Town Treasurer.

   E) Constables – two positions to be filled.

               Dale Beske nominated Rich Reilly; 2^nd by Vicki Sperle.

               Jeanette Walker nominated Denise Markham; 2^nd by Rich Reilly.

               Hearing no further nominations, Lunde closed the nominations for Town Constable.

     

6.     Adjournment.  Rhonda Wethal moved to adjourn the 2007 Caucus; 2^nd by Milt Sperle; motion carried.

 

Subsequent to the adjournment, the candidates present received and completed the following:

A)   receipt of letter of notification of nomination.

B)    campaign registration statement.

C)    declaration of candidacy.

As all candidates nominated were present except for Denise Markham (nominated for Constable) the drawing of the names for ballot order for Chairman and Treasurer were determined by drawing names from a hat.  The ballot order will be as follows: Town Chairman-1. Dale Beske; 2. Daniel Dean.  Treasurer – 1. Kim Sime; 2. Jim Schaller.
